Many of us have seen Disney's rendition of the Greek myth Hercules. But have you ever thought that this movie is the perfect portrayal of our lives as Christians? You haven't, have you. Well, I'm about to tell you why Hercules is My Testimony.

Hercules is found by a man and his wife, who then become his earthy father and mother. Hercules then grows up, not knowing about his heavenly father, and always feeling as though something is missing. He tries

to fill the void by fitting in and helping people, but it just doesn't work. As humans, we don't realize that God is our Father, just like Hercules has no idea. But, we do know that something is missing. And we try to fill this void with academics, athletics, popularity, family, sex, drugs, alcohol...the list could go on and on. But nothing fits quite right. Nothing works.
It is when Hercules is at his lowest that someone finally tells him about Zeus. But they don't tell him he is his father, they only tell him to go to him for answers. When Hercules gets there, he prays to Zeus and Zeus answers, revealing that he is his father and that they were separated. He also reveals

that Hercules cannot rejoin him until he is proven worthy. Mankind is separated from God our Father, and so many have no idea who God even is. All it takes is for someone to tell us about God, and we can't help but seek Him out, and pray for answers. It is then we discover that God is our Heavenly Father and that we are separated by sin. But, just like Hercules, we can't simply rejoin our Father, because sin stands in the way. What we need is to be worthy. It is then we discover the solution to our dilemma: a hero, a Saviour, Jesus. From this point on, our goal in life is to grow closer to God by living like His Son.
But, in life, we are faced with many temptations. Some of us are tempted by greed. We strive to make as much money as we can so we can live an easy, successful life. But we forget about God and our goal. Some of us are tempted

by lust. We yearn for that pleasure like a calf yearns for its mother's milk. But we forget about God and our goal. Some of us are tempted by popularity. We do everything we can to make everyone like us and notice us. But we forget about God and our goal. Hercules was tempted too. After he set out on his journey to follow the course laid out by his father, Zeus, he began training to become worthy. But Hades sent a temptress after him, Meg. Meg represents all that tempts us in life. She distracts Hercules from his purpose, and leads him astray.
But the worst part is when Hercules chooses Meg over his heavenly father. Hades makes him a deal, giving him Meg (in the form of her freedom) in exchange for him ignoring the path that Zeus has chosen for him, even if it is but for a moment. How many times have we done the same thing?

The devil makes temptation look so good, so delightful, that we just ignore God's path for our lives and follow temptation. We think, "hey, it's just one [insert sin here]. It won't hurt anybody." But, just like Hercules, we find out that it only leads to destruction. Since Hercules had strayed, he opened the door for Hades to wreak terror upon the Earth, and, most of all, in Hercules life. When we open the door to Satan, he takes over and destroys everything around us.
Now, bear with me, as we switch up the roles a little bit. Meg is now going to represent mankind and Hercules is going to represent Jesus. After is seems as though all hope is lost, and Hades has won, Hercules rises up from the ashes. He then goes after Meg, who has died and gone to Hell, and rescues her from

the abyss, suffering in anguish as he goes. Jesus came to Earth when it seemed as though we would never have a Savior. He suffered and died, and the devil thought he had won. But then, three days later, Jesus rose from the dead and rescued us from an eternity in Hell. He brings us back to life, just like Hercules did for Meg. In the movie, Hercules didn't have to save Meg. He didn't have to suffer through that vile pit to bring her back. But he did anyways because he loved her. Jesus didn't have to suffer for us. He could have just left us to our own devices and eternal separation from God. But Jesus loves us so much, He loves you so much, that He died in your place so that you could live.
In the end, Hercules and Meg are reunited with Zeus. In the end of our lives, if

we believe that Christ died for our sins and rose again, and we ask for forgiveness and repent, we are reunited with God. Because we are deemed worthy by the blood of the Lamb. By ourselves, we could never hope to achieve perfection and redemption. That's why we needed a hero. That's why
Jesus died and rose again. For it's by His blood that we are made new.
I know that this isn't your typical testimony. For some, it could even be considered silly. But the bottom line is that we are all in need of a Saviour. It doesn't matter who we are, what we do, or where we're from; we all need Jesus to save us from our sins.
I pray that you know Christ as your Saviour. If not, I pray that you will. God bless.
